Gaylene Fortner

Gaylene Fortner creates artworks inspired by her cherished country life in her home state of Montana.  Wildlife, ranch life, antiques, and flowers grace her paintings created with oils or watercolors.  She explores new methods in her paintings in order to reveal the uniqueness of each subject, utilizing a variety of sizes from small to large formats. She especially enjoys painting miniatures, some of which are so small that a magnifying glass is needed to appreciate the details.

Fortner refined her artistic skills by reading books, experimenting, and taking occasional workshops in oils and watercolor. Her most influential training came from workshops with Tom Browning and Jan Kunz.  Constantly a student, Fortner studies the work of other artists and enjoys doing joint studies as well.

Fortner’s work has been shown throughout the United States in exhibitions, and miniature shows in London, England. Several of her paintings have received awards.  She has also participated in several invitational shows and many quick draws.
