“I strive to preserve the beauty in nature through my work. It is something of an act of preservation and in a way an act of rebellion to bring to the viewers attention the beauty of our endangered natural world.” Tara Kemp
Tara Kemp
Tara Kemp studied Fine Art at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and had an early career as a designer and maker of fine art jewelry that was sold in galleries throughout the country. For the past 20 years, she has worked as a graphic designer, painter, and illustrator in Eugene, Oregon.
“I strive to preserve the beauty in nature through my work. It is something of an act of preservation and in a way an act of rebellion to bring to the viewers attention the beauty of our endangered natural world.”
A “values” painter, Tara loves attuning to shadow and highlight, noticing the way a color changes as it moves into shadow or light, and reflects colors from it’s surroundings.
She paints in a Contemporary Impressionist style, what she refers to as “Abstract Realism” - realistic from a distance, yet abounding with abstract shapes and brush strokes upon closer inspection. Her paintings show the play of complimentary colors, opposites, on the canvas to give vibration and shape to the subjects that she paints. Tara mainly paints in oils, but also works in acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and casein. She enjoys painting en plein air, as well as in figure and portrait sessions, and does larger studio paintings.
She feels privileged to have studied with some of the top artists in the country, including:
Christine Lashley, Kathie Odom, Eric Jacobsen, Thomas Kitts, Lori Putnam, Sherrie McGraw, David Laffel, & Jacqui Kamen.
