Jill Banks

Life is full with family (spouse Randy, grown son and daughter, daughter-in-law, two granddaughters and mom), friends like you, and an art career that keeps oil painter JILL BANKS smock-donned and constantly on her toes. Each year, Jill teaches multiple classes a week over three semesters (she was ranked as one of the Top 9 Painting and Drawing Teachers in the Metro DC area by expertise.com); exhibits at  top fine art festivals; sends work off to juried regional, national and international exhibitions; paints in juried and invitational plein air competitions; takes on a small number of portrait commissions; and travels for personal painting trips and inspiration. In 2022, she took on chairing the 52nd National Women Artists of the West Exhibition held in November-January at McBride Gallery in Annapolis, MD. No moss is growing under her feet.

Jill's work has received plenty of press. She is one of three featured artists in the inaugural online Modern Impressionist Magazine - July/August 2023 - with a major spread and demo. Her painting Love by the Sea was featured in a two-page spread in PleinAir Magazine's July/August 2022 portfolio editorial. Her work was featured on the cover of élan Magazine in August 2020, December 2019, January 2015, April 2011 and May 2006.  Jill was featured as an Artist to Watch in Southwest Art Magazine's July 2017 issue. Her paintings have also appeared in American Art CollectorSouthwest ArtPlein AirFine Art Connoisseur, the Washington PostVirginia LivingSpaces Magazine and VivaTysons. In 2020, she officially became a signature member of three amazing art organizations: American Women Artists (AWA), Women Artists of the West (WAOW) and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters (WSLP). All have stringent requirements and goal posts to hurdle over to gain that status ... so each are cool achievements that also provide the comraderie and kinship with accomplished peers. Surpassing all those awards are the joy of seeing students thrive and new owners start (or continue) the journey of enjoying living with her art everyday.
