Kim Middleton
Kim Middleton is an oil painter who specializes in avian art using renaissance era glazing techniques. This time–honored technique of layering transparent glazes with opaque layers achieves rich luminosity as light penetrates and reflects through the layers of oil paint. This method creates a sense of volume and showcases the resplendent beauty of the colors and feather patterns found among birds.
Middleton’s ability to bring birds and their personalities to light through her paintings comes from a long association with them. She graduated from Western Washington University with degrees in biology and chemistry and then spent her life working and studying birds as a biologist, rehabilitator and bird trainer. Her artistic goal is to create a vibrant essence of her subjects by enhancing their expressions, gestures and colors.
