“I am a fine artist working in the mediums of oil, pastel, and ink, and live in the beautiful state of Colorado.” Judy Sprague
Judy Sprague
I've been drawing or painting since I was a child in Tennessee, finally earned an art degree in my late thirties, but didn't pursue painting professionally until the last 25 years when I retired from a career in Education. I am pleased to have earned the recognition of Associate Member Women Artists of the West, Master Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and a Signature Member of the Arizona Pastel Artists Association. My art is exhibited in galleries, juried art exhibitions throughout the United States, and on my web site.
You will notice in my Art Collections I have the Categories: Agaves, Floral & Impressionistic, Native American, Skyscapes & Landscapes, Historical and Vintage, and Rodeo and Wildlife. I love creating art in all of these categories! My "Skyscapes & Landscapes" are usually created in soft pastel and are of locations and scenes in my beloved Colorado. My "Floral & Impressionistic" are sometimes pastel, sometimes oil. These I just let my imagination flow! My "Historical and Vintage" collection includes original ink drawings of some of my favorite places in Colorado and in Tennessee and Virginia. My "Native American" collection has been created because of my great respect for and admiration for our indigenous peoples of our country and their culture. We have several Native American artifacts in our home which I have used for still life paintings. I also have included a "Rodeo and Wildlife" collection created from my attending numerous Rodeos in Colorado and Wyoming, and enjoying the Wildlife of Colorado for many years of my life. And lastly, I will tell you about my "Agaves" collection. I visited Tucson, Arizona for the first time in 2010. One of the places I visited was the DeGrazia Studio where I was totally impressed with their courtyard of beautiful desert plants, and more specifically, the "Agave." I have been creating "Agave" paintings ever since, some are fairly realistic, others are more playful. I am always thinking about my "next" painting!
Since I retired from a Career in Education in 2002 I have focused on entering juried regional, national, and international art exhibitions and, to my joy, my art has been juried into over 79 exhibitions in the past 25 years and have earned over 69 awards.
