Our Mission

ART BY WOMEN has long been neglected in the art world. WAOW is the oldest juried women's art group in the United States and has been working to change the omission of women in the arts to a wide-spread celebration of their unique offerings. WAOW strives to develop a spirit of unity among members while encouraging technical and professional excellence. New members are juried by application and chosen by the quality of work regardless of  the applicant's ethnicity, color or creed. Applicants need  expertise in their chosen field and the all-important spark of creativity. We promote, support, encourage and educate our members and try to foster a sense of belonging that is more than simply being a number.

We are a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization.

Exhibitors

Perhaps Your Facility

We are always searching for venues - whether galleries, art centers or museums - who wish to promote art by women. An exhibition usually consists of between 125-150 juried works, including paintings and sculpture. If hosting a WAOW show and sale interests you, please contact us. We'd be delighted to hear from you and answer any questions.

WAOW

Membership

WAOW membership includes approximately 300+ professional women artists living in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Many members share their expertise through workshops and books and - for the members’ proprietary benefit - an online forum exists to share art tips and participate in extended discussions. We offer an education program and a scholarship program. Art enthusiasts who donate to these programs are appreciated.

What Holds Us Together

The common thread of WAOW artists is the passion for their work and the desire to express the joy and beauty of the world around them. During the organization’s existence, WAOW members have collectively made their mark on the art world while supporting and promoting each other in a spirit of unity. They have done this as a team of professionals, with plans to continue the journey together.
